SCS Spring Meeting 2026: Chemistry in Harsh Environments

SCS Spring Meeting 2026: Chemistry in Harsh Environments

Chemistry in Harsh Environments
The event will bring together leading scientists to explore how harsh and often poorly defined environmental conditions influence surface chemistry in catalysis and sensing technologies—both enabling and limiting their practical applications.

A central theme of the meeting is the close connection between materials science, catalysis and sensing: the same surface reactions that facilitate the efficient conversion of emerging energy carriers can also be harnessed to develop innovative sensor concepts that enhance the safety and reliability of energy infrastructure. Beyond advances in hardware, the complexity of these systems makes them an ideal testing ground for artificial intelligence and data-driven approaches.

The conference aims to foster collaborations between researchers developing advanced operando characterization methods and chemical engineers who depend on robust, field-deployable sensing technologies. By bringing together expertise from materials science, catalysis, engineering, and AI, the meeting seeks to accelerate innovation at the interface of fundamental research and real-world applications.

Poster Session and SCS General Assembly 2027
During lunch time wie offer the opportunity to actively participate with a poster presentation. Registration and application will open in Fall 2026.
Also during the lunch break, the SCS will hold its 2027 General Assembly, at which a review of the anniversary year 2026 and presentations on current and future initiatives will be on the agenda.

Registration
Registration will open in Fall 2026.
The event is free of charge for SCS Members. Non-SCS members pay a registration fee of CHF 100 (students CHF 50).
